Tips from our barista
We recommend trying one of our single-origin Workshop coffees here. It’s perfect for bringing out the fruitier notes in light roasted coffee.
LET'S GET STARTED
STEP 1: WEIGH
Weigh your favorite coffee.
STEP 2: GRIND
Grind coffee to resemble table salt.
STEP 3: BOIL
Boil water (roughly 200°F).
STEP 4: RINSE
Rinse your paper filter in water.
STEP 5: ADD
Add ice and ground coffee.
STEP 6: POUR
Time to pour
STEP 7: ENJOY
The whole brew should take a little over 3 minutes.
Weigh out your coffee on a scale. For a Chemex we recommend a 1:16 ratio.
Grind coffee to resemble table salt, or medium-fine.
Boil water (roughly 200°F).
Wet your paper filter with hot water to rinse it before brewing. It removes the papery taste of the filter, and preheats your Chemex! Discard the water from the cup or vessel.
Time to add coffee. Remove the filter. Place your Chemex on the scale and zero (tare) it out. Add 175 grams of ice to the Chemex. Place the filter back in the Chemex and add premeasured coffee.
Time to pour! Zero the scale again. Start by wetting the coffee enough to make sure that all of it is saturated. Allow 30 seconds for the bloom, then pour in the rest of your water. Try to keep the height of the water and coffee consistent in the filter, pouring in pulses to keep it at the same level.
Enjoy! From bloom to finish, the whole brew should take a little over 3 minutes. Enjoy!
